Question 1

Can I use one brand's trim on another brand's concealed body?

Accepted Answer

You should not assume so. Exposed parts are engineered to a specific body's spindle, spacing and wall depth, and even within one manufacturer ranges differ. Check with the supplier before ordering rather than after the tiles are up and the wall is closed.

Question 2

How deep can the finished wall sit from a concealed body?

Accepted Answer

Every concealed body has a stated depth range marked on it, within which the exposed parts will reach and seat properly. Tile plus adhesive plus levelling bed can easily add twenty millimetres beyond what was assumed at first fix, so check before ordering.

Question 3

Will it work on a gravity-fed overhead tank without a pump?

Accepted Answer

Where no minimum pressure is stated, ask before committing. As a rule a rain shower fed from a low overhead tank with a metre or two of head will underperform whatever the fitting. If the tank sits low relative to the bathroom, a pressure pump is usually part of the answer.

Question 4

Will the finish pit or discolour in hard water?

Accepted Answer

Chrome handles hard water better than most finishes, but scale still deposits on any surface. Wiping the fitting dry after use is what actually prevents the white crust. Acid-based bathroom cleaners and scouring pads etch plating, and that damage does not come back out.

Question 5

Who installs it, the plumber or the tiler?

Accepted Answer

The plumber, at second fix. The tiler's job is to leave a clean opening at the right depth around any concealed body. An oversized tile cut may not be covered by the flange and an undersized one stops it sitting flat, so the two trades have to be coordinated.

Question 6

Can this be retrofitted into a finished bathroom?

Accepted Answer

Anything concealed cannot, without opening the wall, because it is set into the cavity before plaster and tile. Exposed fittings that replace like for like are straightforward. Plan concealed work at the stage when the plumbing layout is being marked out.

Question 7

Should I order the whole bathroom set together?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and it is the safer way to buy. One order, one range and one finish means nothing arrives in a mismatched chrome. For several bathrooms across a project, send the catalogue numbers through RFQ so the schedule is priced as one, GST invoice included.
